Non-Extending, 12X (3X Optical, 4X Digital) Zoom Lens: Although the DiMAGE X31 is thinner than a typical single focal length digital camera, it houses a revolutionary folded 3X optical zoom lens that can capture everything from scenic landscapes to extreme close-ups. The lens never extends from the camera body and zooming noise is just a whisper. This exclusive f/2.8?- 3.7 lens provides a 4.7?- 14.1mm focal range (equivalent to 36?- 108mm on a 35mm camera), and the high-performance lens optics ensure crisp, detailed images.In addition to the 3X optical zoom, up to 4X digital zoom can be selected. The resulting maximum 12X zoom capacity equals a 432mm super-telephoto lens on a 35mm camera.
